Suezette, Steve, Everett and Wendy are all current members of the North Plainfield borough council. They are running for reelection as Democrats in the November 3, 2026 general election.

GOALS

  • Improve public access to the Borough Council members

  • Promote economic development throughout the town

  • Strengthen community connections through multi-cultural events programs

  • Pursue state and federal grants to lower the costs to residents of the Borough improvements

  • Actively recruit a diverse pool of residents to create an inclusive volunteer talent bank

  • Collaborate with our schools on youth programs and services

  • Expand on the findings of the Equity Steering Committee to address community needs

Steven McIntyre

Meet Steve

Seeking to continue to serve on borough council and give back to the town that has been my home for thirty-two years. My focus is quality of life issues and economic prosperity.
 
GOALS

  • Create a town-wide environment of inclusivity through education and action, starting with recruitment of volunteers and staff that represent the diversity of our town

  • Work with police to enforce existing ordinances and pass new ordinances to reduce speeding, loud vehicles and other nuisances

  • Encourage increased town-wide adoption of sustainable environmental practices such as bike-share programs, solar energy and electric vehicles

  • Collaborate with neighborhood groups to foster community pride through events such as block parties and clean-up days

  • Seek grants for redevelopment of parks and recreational opportunities such as playgrounds and a Green Brook multi-use path

  • Encourage business investment in, and redevelopment of, underutilized commercial zones

Everett Merrill

Meet Everett

  • Councilman Everett Merrill has lived in North Plainfield for 52 years. His wife Peggy is a substitute teacher in the district and a former PTA president at West End School. His sons Frank and Steven are proud graduates of North Plainfield High School.
     

  • Everett was appointed, then elected to the Borough Council in 2009. He currently serves on the Parks and Recreation Commission and was a former soccer, baseball and basketball coach for the recreation department. He is the council liaison to the parks & rec committee and the special events committee.
     

  • Everett also serves on Somerset Vo-Tech's Advisory Committee.
     

  • Everett has over 30 years experience in the Public Relations and Communications sector with experience in strategic planning and budget management. He is currently the Director of Media Relations at NJ Transit.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Vacant property registration

    • Reduce vacant houses by more than 50% and cover costs by $600,000

  • Worked with animal protection league of NJ; updated animal ordinance to clarify TNR and add requirements correct definitions

  • Updated driveway ordinance to avoid parking on front lawns

  • Making official working on moratorium opening roads

  • Worked with Somerset County health department to bring our poultry & farm animal ordinance in line with animal safety and health well-being

  • Prohibited  short term rentals

  • Banned selling of cats and dogs

  • Council member for 12 years; this will be her fourth term

BIO

  • Grew up in Linden, NJ

  • Moved into North Plainfield about 20 years ago; married to Eddie who was born and raised in town, and for all who remember, Pop Fody is his grandson

  • Works in IT at high end insurance company for over 20 years

  • Loves living the borough - best neighborhood ever

  • No kids, just animals most through adoption

  • 24-year volunteer CAPIC, cat rescue but work with various animal rescuers
